Ready to kick off the summer? While Cinco de Mayo does not occur until Tuesday, enjoy the celebration of an important Mexican victory over the French (on May 5, 1862), with the three-day Cinco de Mayo Festival this weekend in Douglas Park, 1401 S. Sacramento.
Admission is free, though some attractions are not. A colorful neighborhood parade will step off from Cermak and Damen at noon Sunday. The celebration begins with the Festival, a colorful, lively, and entertaining mix of diverse family oriented attractions, such as live music, food vendors, carnival rides and games. This event attracts upwards of 250,000 people who will enjoy live music performed by local and international talent and there are many popular dishes and an assortment of food and beverages, along with a wide variety of carnival rides and games.
