The Fulton Market District, located in Chicago’s West Loop, is having its annual Spring afternoon open house on Saturday, May 9, 2009 from 12 noon to 5 P.M. Chicagoans and visitors alike are invited to discover the area that is home to some of the city’s most innovative galleries, restaurants, and boutiques. While the Fulton Market area still plays home to many meat-packers and fishmongers, it’s also the location of some of the city’s hottest galleries and fashion boutiques. Explore Fulton Market is a yearly event, organized by area businesses, that gives locals and visitors the chance to discover the neighhood with tastings at bistros and with open houses and sales at shops and art galleries. Expect plenty of artist meet-and-greets as well. Whether looking for a photography studio, fine dining, or boutique sneakers, Fulton Market has something for everyone.
The Fulton Market area is quite an eclectic mix of artists, residents, and warehouse workers. The area, steeped in history as a food-warehousing district, has evolved into art galleries, boutiques, apartment lofts, and restaurants among the still functioning warehouse buildings.
On a typical workday, you can see area residents weaving their paths among forklifts and trucks on the busy streets.
