Free Cheesecake! This year at Taste of Chicago, Eli’s will bake up a giant 1,000 pound Original Plain Cheesecake topped with marzipan cherries the size of baseballs to be served for free at Taste of Chicago’s and Eli’s 24th birthday party on Saturday, June 26th at 1:00 p.m. at Buckingham Fountain. Look for the tent and banner that reads “The Big Cake Is Here.”
Celebrities will cut the giant cheesecake, which will then be served free to the public. The mind boggling grocery list needed to prepare the supersized cake includes 600 pounds of cream cheese, 200 pounds of sugar, 40 dozen eggs and 100 pounds of marzipan to make the cherries to scale for topping the cheesecake.
Eli’s Cheesecake Booth #20, located at the corner of Jackson and Columbus, will offer Eli’s Chocolate Chip Crunch Dippers (frozen Chocolate Chip Cheesecake dipped in crunchy bittersweet chocolate and served on a stick – 6 tickets); Eli’s Totally Turtle Smoosh (Eli’s Totally Turtle Cheesecake smooshed with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of chocolate sauce – 7 tickets); Eli’s Mud Pie Cheesecake (6 tickets); Eli’s Original Plain Cheesecake (4 tickets); topped with strawberries (5 tickets); Taste portion of chocolate-topped Original Plain Cheesecake (3 tickets).
