While the summer is half over, there are lots of things that we recommend as top picks for free things to do in Chicago with kids to make the summer a success.

- We love Chicago’s lakefront.  Take a dip in Lake Michigan or build sand castles together at the beach. Chicago beaches are open for swimming until September 1. Looking for something specific? See this list of beaches.
The Beach Poets series originally in residence at North Avenue Beach now takes place Sunday afternoons at Loyola Beach.

-The Grant Park Music Festival completes its season on late August at Millennium Park. Pack a picnic dinner and hear the nation’s only remaining free outdoor classical music series.

-Go fly a kite. The Library also has a 385-seat auditorium, an exhibit hall, a video theater and meeting rooms. It would be wonderful to visit this library.
