Free Theater: Shakespeare in the Park July 25-26

Purple Bench Productions is mounting a decent free outdoor production of Romeo and Juliet on July 25-26 in Lake Shore Park.  Chicago becomes Verona in this version of Romeo and Juliet, adapted from the original Shakespeare folio text and directed by Matthew Zaradich, with co-direction from Emily O’Neill.  Purple Bench is proud to provide this free theater to the city of Chicago, with the help of funding from Friends of the Parks, a foundation working to improve Chicago’s parks since 1975.  Zaradich has minimized extraneous scenes in getting to a tight, 90 minute production which cause some omission of lines but should be a satisfactory outing for most Shakespreare fans, and an excellent free event for many families that hope to introduce Shakespeare in their families.

romeo-and-julietShows start at 5 PM this Saturday and Sunday 7/25-7/26 in Lake Shore Park (808 N. Lake Shore Dr.).
