If it’s July, it is time for some excellent Chicago Garden walks and one of the best is the ninth annual 2009 Roscoe Village Free Garden Walk, sponsored by Roscoe Village Neighbors. Check out more than 40 urban gardens (and an old-fashioned sidewalk sale) in this quaint North Side community. FREE ADMISSION
.
Exhibiting gardens will be on public display from 12:00 noon until 6:00 pm on Sunday, July 12, and will be marked by signage and balloons.
Whether you live in or near Roscoe Village or are a visitor from farther away, they welcome you to this charming community and invite you to visit the urban gardens on display. Visitors can pick up guides to the walk in front of Victory’s Banner restaurant at 2100 W. Roscoe Street (at Hoyne), selected participating gardens, or online at the Roscoe Village Neighbors website. The map on the back of the guide offers a suggested route. Along the streets of Roscoe Village, the entrance to each garden is indicated with a numbered sign and balloons.
If you love to help, they are looking for volunteers on the day of the garden walk to help distribute garden walk guides at Victory’s Banner. If you can spare one hour between 12:00 noon and 5 pm, please contact Howard Kaplan at howardkaplan@rcn.com (indicate all hours available).
