In remembrance of the 68th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, The City of Chicago will host “Chicago Remembers Pearl Harbor” at 11 am on Monday, December 7th at Navy Pier. The free ceremony will take place at the Lakeview Terrace (east end of Navy Pier).

Everyone in our parents’ generation always remembered where they were on that fateful day, December 7, 1941, when they heard that the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor. On that horrible day, Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese military and the surprise maneuver officially brought the United States into World War II. A total of 2,403 Americans were killed on that day. The City of Chicago will honor all those who fought in the face of extraordinary odds that Sunday morning.

For trivia buffs, there is a brick from Pearl Harbor in Hawaii embedded in the outside wall of the Tribune Tower at 435 N Michigan. If you haven’t done it yet, play tourist for a couple of hours and wander around the outside of 435 North Michigan Avenue and marvel at an architectural work that will not be equalled in our lifetimes.
