The Music Institute of Chicago (MIC) presents a free children’s concert on March 13 entitled “Let’s Make Music,” a fun and interactive children’s program for elementary-age audiences. Free and open to the public, the free concert takes place Saturday, March 13 at Nichols Concert Hall, 1490 Chicago Avenue in downtown Evanston. The event begins at 9 am with an open house featuring an instrument petting zoo, early childhood demos, and refreshments, followed by a free concert at 10 am performed by MIC ensemble-in-residence Axiom Brass Quintet, filled with such games as “Find the Beat”, “Where is the Melody”, “Who is Playing”, and “Musical Chair”. To finish up, students join the brass as conductors and percussionists. Ages 1-12.
“Let’s Make Music” is a multicultural, educational free music program that introduces students to the world of classical music. This interactive concert takes children on an exciting journey around the world, using music to explore different cultures. During the concert, Axiom Brass will perform musical selections from Germany, Cuba, the U.S., Belgium, and other countries. The program also will provide entertaining facts about the composers and the music itself, exploring unique characteristics of each brass instrument and important musical concepts.
In advance of their free kid’s concert, check out Axiom Brass on Thursday March 11 on the ABC 11 am news. Axiom Brass performs as part of MIC’s free children’s concert series.
