Check out “Science Storms” on Free Days at Museum of Science and Industry – Apr 19-23

This week (Monday to Friday) are all free days at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.  There are some great things to do including the new exhibit  “Science Storms,” which is about the science behind tornadoes, avalanches, and other weather phenomena. free-days at MSI -science stormsScience Storms is a journey that takes us from wonder to inquiry, curiosity to observation, investigation to understanding.

Science Storms reveals the science behind seven natural phenomena—lightning, fire, tornados, avalanches, tsunamis, sunlight and atoms in motion. Investigate the basic scientific principles behind nature’s power as you try more than 50 amazing experiments that take two floors and 26,000 square feet to contain … barely. It’s a perfect storm of physics, chemistry and curiosity.

This new permanent exhibit is included in Museum general admission, and does not require a separate timed-entry ticket! Join us on an adventure to discover science inspired by the spectacle of nature!

As we have written about in the past, they also have a fascinating new exhibit called You – the experience, which looks at the complexity of humanity, including their body, their choices, their personality, and their environment. Who you are depends on how you care for yourself and enjoy your life. YOU! The Experience brings these elements together into an interactive exhibit examining and celebrating the experience of life itself. Participatory exhibits include testing your basketball moves with a virtual coach or playing Mind Ball, a game of “competitive relaxation” in which players win by controlling their brainwaves.

Come on out and examine real human embryos and fetuses illustrating the wonders of human development and other amazing human specimens showcasing the extraordinary complexity of the body. Diagnose and treat medical conditions with the Human Patient Simulator—a computer model-driven, full-sized mannequin. And use your own heartbeat to make the Museum’s new giant “Heart” come alive, transmitting your pulse to the Heart and making it beat in time with your own.

You’ll also be presented with activities to get you thinking about your goals, your future and your priorities. Create a list of personal life goals you can store and share with others. Hear thoughts on life from people who have lived 100 years of it, and have a chance to contribute some of your own life story. Preview your future with a digital glimpse at how you might look 25 years from now.

YOU! The Experience is filled with interactive opportunities that provoke questions, invite debate and inspire us all to optimize our personal health and well-being.
