Tom Skilling says Wednesday’s severe weather outbreak appears to have been one of the worst in nearly 2 years–and that’s saying something given ALL the active weather we’ve been dealing with in recent days.
Three waves of storms were involved as WGN explains in their blog. Cloud tops were as high as 63,000 ft. and one hour early Wed. evening saw 15,000 cloud to ground lightning strikes. Peak wind gusts hit 80 mph and rainfall unofficially topped 3″ at SW suburban Minooka. Why all the storms?
