If you are a big Blue Brothers fan, then you will not want to miss this FREE screening of the movie The Blues Brothers on August 13 at the prison that once incarcerated the movie’s infamous character, “Joliet” Jake. The screening will take place outside the Old Joliet Prison at 8 p.m. on Friday night, August 13, 2010. Admission is free. The Blues Brothers (1980) stars John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as “Joliet” Jake and Elwood Blues, two brothers “on a mission from God” to save the orphanage they grew up in from the tax man.
In a classic opening, the movie starts off with Elwood picking up Jake at the Joliet prison. As the movie progresses, they dodge Illinois State Police and “Illinois Nazis” as they race around trying to regroup their band and perform a concert that will raise the money to save the orphanage. Scenes are set at the Richard J. Daley Center in Chicago, Chicago City Hall, and the Cook County Assessor’s Office. Belushi and director John Landis were born in Chicago, and The Blues Brothers frequently tops lists of great movies starring the Windy City.
Admission is free, but you need to bring your own lawnchairs or blankets.
