Free Ice Skating Lessons / Free Skating in Millennium Park in Chicago Thanksgiving 2014 – Winter 2015

Check out the free ice skating in Millennium Park in Chicago this 2014 Thanksgiving weekend and  holiday season and 2015 winter. The McCormick Tribune Ice Rink in Chicago , now in its 11th season, draws over 100,000 skaters annually.  Kicking off Chicago’s 2014-2015 winter season, the McCormick Tribune Ice Rink in Millennium Park will open on Friday, November 14, 2014 and will remain open through mid-March 2015, weather permitting. This rink is free and open to the public. The rink, located on Michigan Avenue between Washington and Madison Streets, will still offer skate rental for only $10.   New this year are Winter Workouts presented by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. On Fridays-Sundays, one hour before the rink opens, free ice skating lessons will be offered. Each Thursday will feature ice sports skills and drills for Noodle Hockey, curling and speed.  Ice skating will be available for a 13th season at the McCormick Tribune ice rink at Millennium Park. Winter kicks-off in Millennium Park on November 14 with the opening of the McCormick Tribune Ice Rink, and Christmas Caroling at Cloud Gate on November 28.    The rink, located on Michigan Avenue between Washington and Madison Streets, will offer skate rental for $10 and will operate with the following hours, according to a schedule provided by the City of Chicago:

For the last 13 years, the rink has drawn more than 100,000 skaters annually and is free and open to the public. The rink, located on Michigan Avenue between Washington and Madison Streets, will still offer skate rental for only $12.

Regular Hours for the season are as follows:

  • Monday-Thursday, 12 Noon—8 pm
  • Friday, 12 Noon—10 pm
  • Saturday (Through Jan. 4), 10 am—10 pm
  • Saturday (Beginning Jan. 11), 10 am—9 pm
  • Sunday, 10 am—9 pm

  • OPEN   Thanksgiving Thursday, Nov. 27, 10 am—4 pm
  • Friday, Nov. 28, 10 am—10 pm
  • Christmas Eve Wednesday, Dec. 24, 10 am—6 pm
  • Christmas Day Thursday, Dec. 25, 10 am—4 pm
  • Friday, Dec. 26 through Tuesday, Dec. 30, 10 am—10 pm
  • New Year’s Eve Wednesday, Dec. 31, 10 am—8 pm
  • New Year’s Day Thursday, Jan. 1, 10 am—10 pm
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 19, 10 am—10 pm
  • Washington’s Birthday, Monday, Feb. 16, 10 am—10 pm

 

Free Skating Lessons

  • Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays, one hour before the rink opens.
  • Lessons will also be offered each day of Chicago Public School Winter Break, December 22–January 4, except December 25 and January 1, one hour before the rink opens.
