Metra has announced that it will offer extra service to accommodate those attending Chicago’s downtown St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 11, 2017 and extra stops on the Rock Island Line for those attending the South Side Irish Parade on Sunday, March 12. “Riders know the value of taking Metra to city events and that’s why we’re happy to provide extra service,” said Metra Executive Director/CEO Don Orseno. “Our weekend fares and Family Fares make Metra the most affordable, smart and safe choice for anyone planning to go to the parade and celebrate.” Metra will provide extra trains and/or expand seating capacity on eight of its 11 lines on March 11 to accommodate the large number of people expected to attend the downtown parade. Extra service schedules for each line are available on our website at metrarail.com. On March 12, some trains on the Rock Island Line will make extra stops at 103rd and 111th for the South Side Irish Parade. Details on this service are also available on our website.
REMINDER: All Metra customers should be advised that alcoholic beverages will not be allowed on all trains on March 11 and on Rock Island Line trains on March 12. In addition, due to the expected high ridership, there is an increased likelihood that Metra will not be able to accommodate bicycles. Customers should also expect slower boarding at outlying stations due to increased passenger loads and train crews taking extra time to ensure everyone’s safety. Don’t forget about Metra’s rideshare partner, Uber. If you’re new to rideshare programs, download the Uber app and enter promo code METRA2017 to receive your first ride free up to $15. (This offer expires Dec. 31, 2017 and is not valid on uberCAB.) For your biggest savings, take advantage of Metra’s $8 Weekend Pass. Offering unlimited rides, the pass can be purchased on the train or via the Ventra App that you can download from the App Store or Google Play. As always, with Family Fares, up to three kids 11 and under can ride free with each adult.
