Chicago’s FREE Juneteenth Celebration

Join in as we celebrate freedom, family and country with our historical Underground Railroad program and history displays, including interactive interpretive hikes, traditional music, a wild edibles display, period recipe samples, a craft and more.  The oldest known commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States, June 19 has become an informal national holiday. This year, Forest Preserve District of Cook County’s annual Juneteenth celebration happens two days early. Families can examine the Underground Railroad exhibit, enjoy traditional music, sample a wild edibles display, make crafts and more. 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday, Sand Ridge Nature Center, 15891 S.
