Free 2018 Money Smart Week Personal Finance Classes and Free Events in Chicago

The 17th annual Money Smart Week is back in Chicago in 2018 with lots of free events on April 19 – 30, 2018. The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago invites you to kick off Money Smart Week® 2018 on Thursday, April 19th from 8:30 AM – 10:30 AM at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.   Join in for a free breakfast with author Beth Kobliner, who will share insights on helping students bridge the financial literacy gap between school and home. Beth wrote two New York Times bestsellers: Make Your Kid a Money Genius (Even If You’re Not) and Get a Financial Life: Personal Finance in Your Twenties and Thirties. She’ll be sharing a special video collaboration with SNL’s Kate McKinnon for Financial Literacy Month.   The first 250 attendees to register will receive a free copy of Beth’s book, Make Your Kid a Money Genius (Even If You’re Not)*

Money Smart Week is a public awareness campaign to promote financial literacy across all age groups. free money classes The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago hosts the free seminars, free classes and free events which focus on everything from thrifty shopping to retirement planning.  Money Smart Week events are open to the public at businesses, financial institutions, schools, libraries, nonprofits and government agencies throughout the Chicago area on topics including kids and money, unemployment, managing student debt and retirement. Many of the events are offered in different languages.

What is Money Smart Week?

Money Smart Week is a public awareness campaign designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances. This is achieved through the collaboration and coordination effort of organizations across the country including businesses, financial institutions, schools, libraries, not-for-profits, government agencies and the media. These groups come together once a year to stress the importance of financial literacy, inform consumers about where they can get help and provide free educational seminars and activities throughout the week. Programming is offered to all demographics and income levels and covers all facets of personal finance from establishing a budget to first time home buying to estate planning. The effort was created by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago in 2002.

 

When is Money Smart Week?

How did Money Smart Week start?

Since 2001, organizations have partnered with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago to present Money Smart financial literacy programs. What started as the annual Money Smart Week each spring has blossomed into educational programming throughout the year at various locations across the country.

 

 

What are some topics that will be discussed?

Money Smart partners include community groups, financial institutions, government departments and schools; all present educational activities to promote financial awareness.  Topics include: Budgeting, understanding credit and much more.
