FREE Things to Do in Chicago this Weekend – Aug 16-18

The is so much to do in Chicago this weekend, August 16-18 so get out there and enjoy yourself!

 

Chicago Air and Water Show

The 61st FREE Annual Air and Water Show happens this weekend, Aug. 17 and 18. The show starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m. This is the largest free show of its kind in the United States, according to the city of Chicago website. The show can be seen along the lakefront from Fullerton to Oak Street and from Ohio Street Beach. Food vendors will be stationed along the lakefront selling food like hot dogs, hamburgers and ice cream.  Here are oher bars and restaurants to watch it from.

Museum of Science and Industry Offers Free Museum Entry

Wrap up summer with a free visit to the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago (MSI). On August 26th through 28th, Illinois residents receive free Museum Entry giving families opportunities to explore more than a dozen exhibits inside the largest science museum in the western hemisphere. Investigate the science behind nature’s power as you control a 40-foot tornado inside Science Storms; experiment with 50 interactive displays including a giant 3D-heart in YOU! ‘We were only Freshmen …’

The Verve Pipe, the Michigan rockers who first stole (and then crushed) hearts in the ’90s with the breakout hit “The Freshmen,” have been making music and touring for the last 24 years. Clear the Shelters

Clear the Shelters is a nationwide pet adoption event hosted by NBCUniversal TV studios that aims to get animals into the loving homes they need. More than 100,000 pets were adopted for last year’s event. Shelters across the country, including many in the Chicago area, will waive or discount adoptions fees to help pets find their fur-ever homes.

Wrigley Block Party

The Gallagher Way park adjacent to Wrigley Field will host its two-day 1060 Block Party this weekend, with food from nearby restos like Big Star, Lucky Dorr, Mordechai and more. Edison Park Fest

Edison Park Fest first started in 1972 as a sidewalk sale on Northwest Highway. The annual community fundraiser draws about 20,000 people, and proceeds help free community programs and beautification projects.
