Families and friends are invited to participate in the 16th Annual Mayors Cup Youth Soccer Tournament (advance registration required for team participation). One of the largest youth soccer tournaments in the United States, This FREE tournament takes place in Lincoln Park at Montrose Harbor.

Approximately 35 boats will be decorated with lights and props as they sail along beautiful Lake Michigan, between the Shedd Aquarium at Roosevelt Road and the Chicago Yacht Club at Monroe Street. People of all ages stake out spots along the lakefront as early as 9 am to ensure a good view of the event.

Free Concert Series Kicks off in Lincoln Square – June 11

Come to Lincoln Square each Thursday night this summer for their free concert series “Concerts on the Square” in the Giddings Plaza — part of a great community tradition that starts on June 11 at 7pm with The Sons of the Never Wrong. Free Concerts happen every Thursday night from 7-9:30pm. The schedule (found here) includes Sons of the Never Wrong, Doko Benjo,The Flat Cats,Old Town Schoolof Folk Music,Typhanie Monique & Neal Alger,Haywood Yards, Kevin Flynn & The Avondale, Ramblers, The Three Troubadours, Night, Detagoh, Carlos Ortega and the Cory Atkinson Band.

Sons of the Never Wrong on June 11 are a folk trio from Chicago made up of Bruce Roper, Deborah Lader, and Sue Demel. The band has been creating original “turbo-charged folk music” for 15 years to a cult-like national following. With their different take on three part harmony on top of witty, whimsical songs, Sons’ style springs from a tradition you’d swear you’ve heard, but this just ain’t your grandpop’s folk music.

The Son’s 5 CD releases have brought them stunning national and international reviews as well as extensive radio-play. It is their live performances though that win the audience’s hearts. The group can barely stand still on stage and insty-choreography results in a non-stop show of stories, dancing, and odd-ball humor. Yet it is when the three step up to the mic and belt out one of their many gorgeously- arranged songs, that you know you are in for something extra special.

Eastside Art Festival Just Steps from Millenium Park – June 5-7

Looking for art downtown? Look no further than a few steps from Millennium Park’s famous Cloud Gate sculpture — the Chicago Eastside Millennium Art Festival showcases the work of 150 juried artists from across the United States this weekend. Originally founded years ago as the New Eastside Artworks, the Eastside Millennium Art Festival is reborn and returning to Michigan Avenue, at Lake and Stetson Streets. Extraordinary examples of two-dimensional and three-dimensional work are represented at the festival.

This is a free event and open to the public. The Eastside Millennium Art Festival offers guests the opportunity to enjoy and purchase exceptional artwork from masters in the field. Live music, great food from local and national vendors, as well as fun activities just for kids, including interactive art Bingo and an art tent where kids can create their own masterpieces, also take place at the festival. Nearby attractions like the internationally acclaimed Art Institute and Millennium Park make for a perfect day of exploring art and the city of Chicago.
