Jazz fans are in for an evening of hot sounds at the Humboldt Park Boathouse on July 17 as the Third Annual Latin Jazz Festival gives us three free concerts. Kicking off the free Latin Jazz Festival evening will be Paulinho Garcia, one of Chicago’s musical treasures, bringing the joyous sound of his home country of Brazil to the Windy City. The second act of the evening will be John Rodriguez and Latin Inspiracion, considered some of Chicago’s finest in Cuban Jazz and Latin Jazz.
Closing out the night will be the The Chicago Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble, a band that is quickly becoming one of the most talked about bands in Chicago. Emerging under the leadership of trumpeter Victor Garcia and pianist Darwin Noguera, the band features some of the top talent in Chicago, including trumpeter Tito Carrillo, alto saxophonist Greg Ward, baritone saxophonist Steve Eisen, bassist Joshua Ramos, drummer Ernie Adams, amongst many others.
Check out Chip Boaz’s preview of the festival.
