Free Light Show at the Bean in Millennium Park – Feb 2012

Luminous Field, an unprecedented site-specific video and sound installation by the Chicago-based artists, Luftwerk, will illuminate Cloud Gate in Millennium Park from February 10-20. Family activities, live performances and dance events will complement the installation that will transform the Park into a digital canvas of light and geometrical form, with music composed by Owen Clayton Condon of Chicago’s Third Coast Percussion.  Luminous Field will be on view on Friday and Saturday evenings from 6 – 10 PM, and Sunday – Thursday evenings from 6 – 9 PM. This February, Millennium Park is transformed into a digital canvas of light and geometrical form with its first-ever site-specific video and sound installation by the Chicago-based artistic ensemble Luftwerk. Created specifically for Millennium Park, the installation will illuminate Cloud Gate – known by many Chicagoans as “The Bean” – and its surrounding AT&T Plaza with dramatic images and colors set to music composed by Owen Clayton Condon, of the local avant-garde classical ensemble, Third Coast Percussion.

  1. I was dissappointed with the luminate light show at the Bean. It was wall to wall people Saturday evening and you couldn’t even tell what the buzz was all about. Very little interaction not to mention reflection off the Bean. I wish they would of roped off the area so it could of been enjoyed by all.

  2. The security there had no control over the crowd. They roped off the corners but watched as everyone just hung out in the middle of the lighted portion. It made it pointless to see any light show.
