Mark your calendars now for the Taste of Chicago in Grant Park. This year it occurs later in the summer and will be shorter — it runs from July 11 to 15 — and there will a charge for concerts ($25) for seats in the Petrillo Music Shell (3,000 seats). However, the 30,000 lawn seats for the concerts remain free. Headliners so far at the Petrillo Music Shell are Jennifer Hudson (July 11), Death Cab for Cutie (July 12), Chaka Kahn (July 14) and Dierks Bentley (July 15); the July 13 performer has yet to be announced. Radio Disney will present a free family show at 11:30 a.m. July 14 at the Petrillo, and the Bud Light Stage will showcase local performers, including Kids These Days (July12), Robbie Fulks (July 14), Mucca Pazza (July 12) and My My My (July 13).
Taste also will showcase the city’s popular free SummerDance program, a new feature, along with popular standbys such as the Dominick’s Cooking Corner, the Family Village with interactive children’s activities and the Humana Race to the Taste (6:15 p.m. July 12). Tickets for the chef-prepared meals and Petrillo concerts will go on sale at tasteofchicago.us in late May. If tickets don’t sell out they’ll be available at the event.
