Free Literary Festival in Chicago: Creative NonFiction Week 2013 at Columbia College

It’s Creative Nonfiction Week at Columbia College Chicago, the annual festival that celebrates creative nonfiction and literary journalism. The theme for this year is Hybrid Forms and features a variety of different panels and special guests.    Continuing through October 24, the schedule includes panels, classes and readings with local publishers, teachers, and masters of the form.     Monday, October 21
    1 p.m. Kwame Dawes Master Class (for graduate students by invitation only)
    4 p.m. Latina Voices reading –Teresa Puente hosts a reading with current and former students of the Latina Voices course.
    7 p.m. Kwame Dawes reading (poet, writer, Emmy Award winner for documenting HIV/AIDS in Jamaica)


    Tuesday, October 22
    4 p.m. Graphic Storytelling and Nonfiction Comics: Neil Brideau, Anne Elizabeth Moore, Darryl Holliday and Erik Rodriguez. Moderated by Greg Baldino.
    7 p.m. Panel: Telling Live Stories: Performance and discussion by Megan Stielstra, Shannon Cason, Andre Perez and Bobby Biedrzycki. Moderated by Sharon Bloyd-Peshkin.


    Wednesday, Oct 23
    1 p.m. Panel: Creative Nonfiction: Hybrids and Cross Pollinations. David Stuart MacLean, Kathleen Rooney and David Trinidad. Hosted by Garnett Kilberg-Cohen.
    4 p.m. Panel: Video Storytelling. Martha Irvine, Eric Scholl, Ted Hardin. Moderated by Jackie Spinner.
    7 p.m. Faculty and Student Readings


    Thursday, Oct 24
    4 p.m. Panel: Entrepreneurial paths to publication. Sarah Dodson (Make magazine), Mairead Case (Featherproof and Yeti), Paul Durica (Pocket Guide to Hell) and Toure Muhammad (Bean Soup Times). Moderated by Sharon Bloyd-Peshkin.

    The contributors to this year’s South Loop Review: Creative Nonfiction + Art will read and discuss their work. Event includes free coffee and a book raffle.
