FREE Chicago Celebration of American Indian and Indigenous Music and Dance

Join in for a FREE outdoor celebration of American Indian and Indigenous music and dance at the Newberry Library on Sept 12th.  Performances will feature several Chicago-based groups, including RedLine Drum; the Nahualli Aztec Dancers; Ke Kula Kupa`a O Ka Pakipika, Kupa`a’s School of the Pacific; and the Shki Bmaadzi, a Native youth drum and dance group.   Participating groups will share their diverse cultural traditions in a fun and educational style, including some opportunities for the audience to dance and sing along. This event is family-friendly and open to people of all ages.   This event is cosponsored by the Newberry’s Department of Continuing Education, the D’Arcy McNickle Center for American Indian and Indigenous Studies, and the Washington Square Park Advisory Council with support from the Free for All Fund of the Chicago Community Trust.
