Things to Do This Weekend: June 30-July 4

 

Frontier Days – June 30 to July 4 – the Frontier Days Festival features FREE Entertainment on three stages. We have great food prepared and served by volunteers, assisted by local community groups. There are many FREE Family events and Sports Activities along with Carnival rides and one of the largest Fourth of July Parades in the northwest suburbs. One of the Festival’s highlights is the Citizen’s with Disability Day when people with special needs and their immediate families are invited to come to a complimentary, fun-filled, event.

 

Get healthy – Start off the holiday weekend by getting your fitness on at Millennium Park Summer Workouts.    The workout program takes place on the Great Lawn in Millennium Park from Saturday, May 28 to Saturday, September 3, 8-11:45am with a series of 45-minute workouts including Tai Chi, Yoga, Pilates and Zumba®.     Pilates and Zumba® will not be offered on June 4 and 11. ASL interpretation will be provided for all workouts.

Dance your shoes off – Free dance lessons every Thursday in June at

Free dance lessons every Thursday in June.at Pier Dance on Novy Pier.  New this summer, Navy Pier will help guests leave it all on the dance floor with a series of free dance lessons on the Polk Bros Performance Lawn City Stage.    A different style of dance will be taught each week by some of the most sought-after instructors in the city. After some focused lessons, the floor will be opened to free dance.  Just try to sit this one out!  Thisa Thursday, Bellydance By Phaedra will provide lessons on Middle Eastern and belly dance techniques before opening up the dance floor.

Arts in Evanston –   Plan your art-filled day in Evanston on July 2, 12-9p, during Evanston Made’s First Saturday Evanston Art Events with this Google Map!     First Saturday Evanston Art Events invite the community to explore Evanston’s Creative Community with free admission. Enjoy the Artist studio tours,  Evanston Galleries, food and drink and SO MUCH MORE!!

 

Movie time? –  Take movie night outdoors this weekend and watch the Disney hit “Encanto” at Movies in the Parks at Hermitage. BYO blanket, chairs, snacks and drinks.

Watch: Lyric Opera of Chicago’s VERDI VOICES Concert Now Available for Free Digital Streaming

Free Lyric Opera of Chicago’s recent Verdi Voices concert starring three of the world’s most accomplished Verdians – soprano Tamara Wilson, tenor Russell Thomas, and conductor and Lyric Opera of Chicago Music Director Enrique Mazzola – is now available digitally and can be streamed for free starting today.

This concert features a comprehensive survey of Verdi’s musical genius, from his shimmering overture to La forza del destino, to favorite arias from Don Carlos and Simon Boccanegra, to mesmerizing duets from Aida and Otello, and more. These Verdi specialtists will join forces again to open Lyric’s 2022/23 season with the composer’s Ernani in September. The Verdi concert film offers a preview of Ernani with the arias “Mercè, diletti amici” and “Ernani, involami.”
