That is when restaurants nationwide observe National Cheeseburger Day, and there’s some incredible freebies and deals to be enjoyed.

National Cheeseburger Day is Sept. 18. We don’t know who first laid a slice of fromage on a beef patty. Restaurateurs from California to Kentucky have claimed credit. But Louis Ballast, owner of Denver’s Humpty Dumpty Drive-In, trademarked “the cheeseburger” in March 1935 (though the term is fully generic now).
Since then, the cheeseburger has become an American staple: Americans eat nearly 50 billion burgers each year, and a good number of them are slathered in cheddar, Colby or Swiss.

Applebees – In celebration of National Cheeseburger Day, participating Applebee’s are offering a special Burger Bundle deal — that’s a handmade cheeseburger plus fries and a Mountain Dew Dark Berry Bash drink or other Pepsi beverage — for $11. The deal applies to Applebee’s Bacon Cheeseburger, Whiskey Bacon Cheeseburger, Quesadilla Burger, Impossible Cheeseburger and even the old-fashioned hamburger without cheese. Order online on the Applebee’s website or via the Applebee’s app on Sept. 18.
BurgerFI – In honor of National Cheeseburger Day on the 18th, BurgerFi will be offering a $5 bounce-back offer to those who order a cheeseburger or regular burger on the BurgerFi app. That means once you buy that burger, you’ll get a $5 reward to use on the next order of $15+ valid between September 19 and September 26.
Burger King – From Sept. 17 to 19, Royal Perks members can enjoy a free cheeseburger with a minimum purchase of $1 by ordering at bk.com or on the Burger King app.
McDonald’s: No one sells more cheeseburgers than McDonald’s, and on September 18, the chain will be giving away a free cheeseburger through the McDonald’s app with just a $1 minimum purchase. But to add some intrigue to the offer, the type of cheeseburger the chain will be offering is still up for grabs — today is the last day for users to vote for which freebie they’d most like to see: a classic Cheeseburger, Double Cheeseburger, or McDouble. The winner will be announced tomorrow leaving four days of free cheeseburger anticipation.
Dairy Queen: On National Cheeseburger Day, DQ is keeping it simple, offering $1 off any of their Signature Stackburgers when ordered as a standalone item through the DQ app.
Jack in the Box: The California-based burger chain is also celebrating National Cheeseburger Day with an offer through their app: Customers can get a Jumbo Jack Cheeseburger for $2 with any in-app purchase.
Smashburger: Customers can take advantage of a buy one get one free deal by using the promo code BOGO22 both in-store and online.
Wayback Burgers: Also going the BOGO route, Wayback will celebrate September 18 by offering a buy one get one free deal on their classic burger when purchased through the Wayback Burgers’ app.
Wendy’s: Users of the Wendy’s mobile app will be able to snag a free Dave’s cheeseburger with any purchase until Wednesday.
Steak n’ Shake: Anyone who downloads the Steak n’ Shake rewards app can grab a free specialty milkshake to pair with their order.
