Free Bucktown Arts Fest – August 29-30

Free Art Festival: Come out and enjoy the free 2009 Bucktown Arts Fest on August 29th and 30th, between 11am – 7pm, celebrating their 24th year! Art, in all its forms, has been the sole focus of the free Bucktown Arts fest since its inception in 1985. From its roots as a small gathering of local artisans to its current incarnation as one of Chicago’s premier gatherings of painters, sculptors, photographers and craftspeople (not to mention musicians, actors, poets, and dancers), the free fest puts the spotlight squarely on that mysterious amalgam of inspiration and perspiration that delights the eye and stirs the soul.

Free Glenwood Ave Arts Fest – August 21-23

The Glenwood Avenue Arts Fest is a free, weekend-long event on August 21-23 that features artists, open studios, and free entertainment on three outdoor stages in Rogers Park. Experience art of all disciplines, music, theater, food and drink on the cobblestone streets of the Glenwood Avenue Arts District in Chicago’s historic Rogers Park neighborhood. Free World Class “Chicago Dancing Festival” Kicks Off August 18

The 2009 free Chicago Dancing Festival (not to be confused with Chicago Summer Dance) will take place August 18-22, 2009 across 3 different venues. The Chicago Dancing Festival 2009 is a free celebration of dance that takes place in the heart of Chicago Aug. 18-22 and is presented in association with the Museum of Contemporary Art and the City of Chicago-Millennium Park. Northside SummerFest ($5) – August 14-16

Although its not free ($5), the North Side Summerfest at Lincoln and Irving Park (NSS) ranks with the top festivals in Chicago, with more than 20,000 expected to attend. AS summer fades, this weekend will give summer a rockin’ send-off, with a full lineup of the area’s best bands, a wide selection of arts and crafts northside-summer-festand a mouth-watering array of food and drinks from all corners of the city. NSS is about as much fun as you could safely pack into three days.

Free Festival: 14th Annual Chicago Korean Festival – August 8-9

The free 14th Chicago Korean Festival will be held August 8 and 9, 2009. The K-fest is a way for the Korean American community in Chicago to proudly display their unique culture. Held on the second weekend of August, it a great chance to immerse yourself in the amazing traditions and culture of Korea. So please come to the Korean Street Festival and enjoy the best that the Korean community has to offer — whether it is the breathtaking cultural dances or the mouth-watering tastes of Korean food. There is something for all people, so come with your friends and family and enjoy the Korean Street Festival at 3200-3400 W. Bryn Mawr Avenue (between Kimball Avenue and Kedzie Avenue) in Chicago.

Chicago Botanic Garden’s Free Kite Festival – August 8-9

FREE KITE FLYING! Bring the family and check out the Chicago Botanic Garden’s free Kite Festival on Saturday, August 8, and Sunday, August 9. With the precision of an Olympic ice skater and the grace of a prima ballerina, brightly colored kites will glide and pirouette through the skies over the West Meadow behind Evening Island at the Chicago Botanic Garden. The Kite Society of Wisconsin & Illinois and Gift of Wings help organize this free event and members of the award-winning Chicago Fire Kite Team will perform sport kite ballet and precision flying demonstrations. Hours are from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

Free Festival: Taylor Street Festa Italiana – August 7-9

Chicago’s official “Little Italy” neighborhood plays host to the free Taylor Street Festa Italiana festival this August 7-9! Free Admission! Free Music!, Free Concerts! The Taylor Street Festa Italiana lines the streets with numerous food specialties represented in this neighborhood as part of a celebration of classic Italian culture combined with the new wave of commercial, residential and streetscape development in this beautiful area.

Free Taste of Wisconsin in Kenosha – Aug 1-2

Come check out the first annual free Taste of Wisconsin on Aug 1-2, a one-of-a-kind festival celebrating the best of Wisconsin foods and beverages! Of course Wisconsin is well known for its superb cheese, brats and beer, and this free event will certainly showcase the best in those categories!

Free Festival: Fiesta Del Sol in Pilsen – July 30-Aug 2

Free event! The Pilsen Neighbors Community Council organizes the free Fiesta del Sol in Pilsen every year to help fund their efforts in the community. Celebrating its 37th year, Fiesta del Sol started as a one-block festival and today is one of the largest Midwest festivals of its kind. fiesta_del_solAdmission to the four-day festival is free and this family-friendly event is both alcohol and tobacco-free. Over one million people attend the four-day festival every year, which this year falls on July 31-Aug2.

Free Groucho Marx Glasses: Guinness World Record Attempt – July 21

Join the fun at Grant Park on Tuesday night, see a free movie on the giant outdoor screen and get a chance to be a part of the Guinness Book of World Records. On July 21, the folks at the Outdoor Film Festival are trying to set a world record. At the free showing of the movie Duck Soup, all people attending the outdoor film festival will receive a free Groucho Marx nose and glasses for an attempt to enter the Guinness Book of World Records for “The most people wearing Groucho Marx glasses,” according to the Chicago Mayor’s Office of Special Events.
