Free Evanston Ethnic Arts Festival – July 18-19

The City of Evanston rolls out its annual 23rd Ethnic Arts Festival this weekend, July 18-19 from noon to 7pm each day in theEthnic art vendor 2007 idyllic lakefront Dawes Park, located at Sheridan Rd. at Church St. With the flags of more than 100 nations honoring the diversity of our planet, festival goers will experience the colors, sounds, and aromas of world cultures, with every continent represented through song, dance, spoken word, visual arts and food.

Free Concert: Latin Jazz Festival – July 17

Jazz fans are in for an evening of hot sounds at the Humboldt Park Boathouse on July 17 as the Third Annual Latin Jazz Festival gives us three free concerts. Kicking off the free Latin Jazz Festival evening will be Paulinho Garcia, one of Chicago’s musical treasures, bringing the joyous sound of his home country of Brazil to the Windy City. The second act of the evening will be John Rodriguez and Latin Inspiracion, considered some of Chicago’s finest in Cuban Jazz and Latin Jazz.

Closing out the night will be the The Chicago Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble, a band that is quickly becoming one of the most talked about bands in Chicago.

Reminder: Sunset Boulevard in Grant Park – July 14

The Chicago Outdoor Film Festival starts off with the classic Sunset Boulevard on July 14 on a gigantic screen plus a state-of-the-art sound system. Join thousands of Chicagoans who take in a free movie in the Park with Chicago’s magnificent skyline as your backdrop. Films are shown on seven consecutive Tuesday evenings in the summer at dusk. Please join the Opening Night festivities to kick off the 10th annual Chicago Outdoor Film Festival. The public is invited to join Ben Mankiewicz, daytime weekend host of Turner Classic Movies, as he introduces the opening night screening at 8:15pm.

Fireworks at the Taste of Chicago – July 3

As we celebrate Independence Day, grab some friends and family and head down to the Taste of Chicago for the spectacular free fireworks show on July 3 on the lakefront. Things will get started at the Petrillo Music Shell at 7:30 pm, when the the 85th Army Band will warm up the crowds with their harmonious sound. Don’t forget to bring your radio to the free fireworks show, because the soundtrack is being simulcast on 101.9 THE MIX

Free Long Grove Strawberry Festival – June 26-28

Are you a strawberry lover? Then head out this weekend June 26-28, 2009 to the free Long Grove Strawberry Fest, the granddaddy of Long Grove’s signature festivals, drawing thousands of music-loving, food-loving, and fun-loving visitors to the historic business district for the three-day event.

Chicago’s Free Blues Festival – June 12-14

The Chicago Blues Festival is the largest free blues festival in the world and remains the largest of all of Chicago’s Music Festivals. During the three days (June 12-14) on six stages, more than 640,000 blues fans last year proved that Chicago is the “Blues Capital of the World”.

It’s Time for the Old Town/Wells Street Art Festival – June 13-14

While not free, (Your $7 gate donation ($10 after 7pm) benefits the Old Town Merchants & Residents Association), the Wells Street Art Festival is recognized as one of Chicago’s most prestigious art fairs, attracting exhibitors and prospective buyers from all over the nation. The show features a wide variety of fine art – everything from glass and ceramics, to pencil drawings and oil paintings – plus a silent auction and children’s area.

Free Concert by Million Dollar Quartet on June 2

The cast of the smash hit Million Dollar Quartet will be performing a free concert at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. Chicago’s beloved musical was inspired by the famed 1956 recording session that brought together legendary rock ‘n’ roll icons Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley.

Seventh Annual Free Chicago Turkish Festival Kicks Off May 27

The 7th Annual free Chicago Turkish Festival will be held from Wednesday, May 27th through Saturday, May 30th, 2009. Admission is free. Festival Booths are open between 10:00 am – 6:00 pm daily. It is the seventh year this increasingly popular festival will again be held at one of downtown Chicago’s busiest squares, right across from City Hall on the block of Washington Street between Clark and Dearborn.
