Free Admission to Art Institute of Chicago – Dec 17

FREE ADMISSION: Are you downtown this Thursday Dec 17th doing some holiday shopping? Then swing by the Art Institute as every Thursday night is free admission night (5:00 to 8:00) at the Art Institute of Chicago (this free museum night is sponsored by Target). Come check out the The Art Institute of Chicago on December 17th — one of America’s premier fine art museums and free on Thursdays. Located adjacent to the Loop and Chicago’s Grant Park, the Art Institute has one of the world’s most notable collections of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art, but as an encyclopedic museum, its permanent collection also includes a diverse range of works from around the world and from throughout history.

Free Days At Adler Planetarium in November-December

Come on out for Adler Planetarium’s Free Days of Nov. 24, Dec. 1, Dec. 8, Dec. 15, and Dec. 22 and see the Star of Wonder. Visiting? This is your last chance to take in the Star of Wonder here in Chicago and why not do it with free admission! Take a journey back in time this holiday season to rediscover the story behind the Star of Bethlehem in the Adler Planetarium’s Star of Wonder, the museum’s longest-running sky show and one of Chicago’s favorite holiday offerings.

Free E-Books each Month!

The University of Chicago Press has just announced that they will begin offering one free e-book each month. While most of these are academically challenging, there are books on most subjects and some are very interesting. Free Admission at Field Museum – Nov 9 and Dec 14

FREE ADMISSION: In November 2009, the Field Museum has both Target Free Second Mondays (Nov 9) as well as free days on November 11, 12, 18, 19. The Field Museum educates and entertains visitors with exhibits about nature and culture, prehistoric to present. One if its most popular attractions is Sue, the world’s largest and most complete T. rex dinosaur skeleton. Also check out the new exhibit: THE NATURE OF DIAMONDS! Discover the gem that has stimulated scientists, inspired writers and influenced artisans for thousands of years in The Nature of Diamonds. Open October 23, 2009 through March 28, 2010.

Free MCA Museum Tuesday with DoodleGanza! – Nov 3

Come to the free MCA Nov 3 for a whimsical free art party that unites artists of all skill levels. This is not really an art class, but not quite a party; it is a gathering for those who want to have a hands-on encounter with art. The MCA provides art supplies and participants bring ideas. There are special activities to guide participants through the evening of art making.

Free Days in October 2009 at Field Museum

In October 2009, the Field Museum has both Target Free Second Mondays (October 12) as well as free days on October 7 and 8. The Field Museum educates and entertains visitors with exhibits about nature and culture, prehistoric to present. The Field Museum was founded to house the biological and anthropological collections assembled for the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893. These objects form the core of the Museum’s collections which have grown through world-wide expeditions, exchange, purchase, and gifts to more than twenty million specimens. The collections provide the foundation of the Museum’s exhibition, research and education programs.

Free Museum “Day of the Dead” Exhibit Fascinates – Thru Dec 13

Every year, it seems that the most popular exhibit at the free National Museum of Mexican Art is the the Day of the Dead display, which fascinates adults and children with altars, skull sculptures and colorful art in many media celebrating the dearly departed in weird and wonderful ways. This free exhibit, “Camino a Casa: Coming Home on Day of the Dead,” is the largest Day of the Dead exhibition in the nation and includes works of art from Mexico and the United States. Programs are held in Spanish and English, and include public tours, children’s art classes and sugar skull demonstrations.

Free Days and New Exhibit at Museum of Science and Industry

October is a great free museum days month at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago and the following days have free admission: October 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 19, 20, 21 ,22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, and 30. They also have a fascinating new exhibit called You – the expereince, which looks at the complexity of humananity, including their body, their choices, their personality, and their environment. Who you are depends on how you care for yourself and enjoy your life. YOU! The Experience brings these elements together into an interactive exhibit examining and celebrating the experience of life itself.
